Parasitic infections among the residents in rural area of Kathmandu, Nepal

Abstract

|
This study were performed to survey intestinal parasitic infections of the residents in rural area of Kathmandu, Nepal from 15 to 28 February 1997. The results of 394 people examined by formalin-ether sedimentation technique and 499 people examnied by scotch tape method are as following:
The positive rate by formalin-ether sedimentation technique is 82.7%. Parasitic infection rates are T. trichura(59.9%), A. lumbricoides(55.6%), Hookworm(24.4%), E. coli(13.2%), T. orientalis(7. I %), E. histolytica(7. I %), G. lamblia(3.8%), H. nana(3.3%), Taenia species(1.0%), H. diminuta(0.5%), S. stercoralis(0.I%). The positive rate of E. vernnicularis examined by scotch tape method is 14.2%.
